flecheflecheThe “Les Amis d’Éric Weil” society

 

The society was founded on December 14, 2001 to execute the provisions of Catherine Mendelsohn's will and testament after she died on February 15, 1993.

Its original purpose was to bring together in equal numbers the representatives of the University of Lille 3 (headships, scientific counsels, main libraries) and those of the Éric Weil Centre. After a recent change in the organisation of the Office of Research at the University of Lille 3 which led to the end of the Centre’s activities, the statutes of “Les Amis d’Éric Weil” were changed on March 9, 2006. This allowed the society to maintain its purpose and to create an “Éric Weil Institute”.

puce The aim of “Les Amis d’Éric Weil” is

 fleche to promote the study and disseminating of Éric Weil's writings (through publishing, republishing, translating his already published or original work, organising projects about his works);

 fleche to promote research in the fields of the history of concepts and ideas, general philosophy, aesthetics, moral and political philosophy (publishing, translating, seminars, helping researchers materially and morally).


puce To that end the society handles the Éric Weil legacy which includes

fleche the Éric Weil library (installing, cataloguing, running and putting his works at the disposal of researchers),
fleche Éric Weil’s private archives (sorting, digitizing, keeping),
flechethe money from the capital’s interests and copyright (publishing Éric Weil’s original writings, helping the translation of his works, financing research and training activities in the above-mentioned fields, installing, cataloguing, running the library, filing private documents).

puce 1) The society was created on December 14, 2001, with Mr. Bruno Delabre. Those present or represented were:

Philippe Rousseau, president of the University, Jean-Paul Chadourne, director of the university’s main library, Christian Berner, Anne Boissière, Lucien Bescond, Anne-Christine Habbard, Jean-Marie Breuvart, Jean-Michel Buée, Patrice Canivez, Dieudonné Henkou, Catherine Kintzler, Gilbert Kirscher, Jean Quillien, Jean-François Robinet, Frédéric Worms.

Members of the board of directors : the president of the University of Lille 3, the chief librarian of the University Library, the vice-president of the Office of Research, the executors Gilbert Kirscher and Jean Quillien, Patrice Canivez as head of the “Éric Weil Centre”.

Members of the Committee : president, Jean Quillien, vice-president, Jean-Paul Chadourne, secretary, Gilbert Kirscher, treasurer, Patrice Canivez.

puce 2) The special session of Thursday March 9, 2006 conducted a status change in the composition of the board of directors, the three “Éric Weil Centre” representatives being replaced by two executors and an elected member of the Association.

Jean-Paul Chadourne, chief librarian of the University Library until September 2011, replaced by Isabelle Westeel,
Michel Crubellier then Joëlle Caullier, vice-president in the Office of Research
Gilbert Kirscher, executor,
Jean Quillien, executor,
Patrice Canivez, chosen by the members of the society.

The “Les Amis d’Éric Weil” society was created in 2001 to implement the provisions of the Weil-Mendelsohn will and the installation of the Library. This task was completed. Now the society has been replaced by the Éric Weil Institute (EWI) History of Concepts and Ideas Institute, whose creation was decided with a vote of the governing body of the University on December 9, 2011.
