The Éric Weil Institute carries on and expands the work undertaken from the 1980s onwards by the Éric Weil Centre (EA 2456 at the University of Lille 3) and by the “Les Amis d’Éric Weil” society, which was founded on December 14, 2001.

The Éric Weil Institute is an Institute dedicated to the History of Concepts and Ideas (Institut d’Histoire des Concepts et des Idées). It was founded on December 9, 2011, by the University of Lille 3. It aims to disseminate and study Éric Weil's work. The Institute supports research centered on themes that are related to Éric Weil's work, and more generally to the history of concepts and ideas.



The Éric Weil Research Centre was officially founded in 1981 within the department of Philosophy of the University of Lille 3 by a group of Éric Weil’s former students, most of whom had attended his lectures and seminars in Lille between 1965 and 1968, and more particularly his ‘Logique de l’Encyclopédie de Hegel’ seminar (which focused on the reasoning behind Hegel’s Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences), from 1963 until 1968, when he left for Nice… [Read more]
